Mission opportunities
We encourage our small groups to participate in local and world-wide missions. Here are some suggestions:
Dinner for Homeless Shelter
Help at Salvation Army and St. Joseph Center. Talk to David Cox at St. Joseph's Center about preparing a meal for the senior center.
Collection of Giveaway Items
Have your group members clear their closets of things that can be gathered and taken to a second hand store . Spend a morning or afternoon as a group taking them in.
Bring Items for San Martin Housing Consortium to Church
Have your group bring these items to the meetings, and then deliver them to Harriet Anderson.
- Cleaning supplies – Brooms, dust pans, mops, etc.
- Cooking supplies – Pots, pans dish drainers and pans, etc.
- Personal items – hampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste (travel samples)
- Linens – Sheets pillow cases, towels, dishtowels shower curtains, etc.
Get Well Cards
Write cards for those in the congregation who are in the hospital, sick or undergoing surgery. Check the prayer chain for names.
Newswatch
Ask group members to watch the news for things in our world and community that need prayer. Share with the group and spend time as a group praying for them.
Missionary Support
Have your group write a letter or card to missionaries. Offer them encouragement and include an offering for them.
TLC for Shut-Ins
Visit one of our shut-in or elderly church members to help clean their house, yard, garage, windows, etc.
Date Night
Give a couple in the church or your group a "date night" by babysitting and getting dinner for their kids. Take up a collection in your group to give them a dinner at a nice restaurant.
Backpacks for Refugees
Pick up a list from the Welcome and Information table or email Lynn for a list of items to include in the backpacks
Letters for Soldiers
Write letters to Rev. David Rodriguez in Iraq to give to wounded soldiers (he's a Naval Chaplain who was deployed in August). Letters can be mailed to the Presbytery office, 888 N. First St. #320, San Jose, CA 95112.
